Hi Ivan,

I have read ur conversion manual for the above. It seems thats you are converting a 5E-FE or 5E-FHE into a 5E-FTE.

Since i have a 4E-FTE already, what parts will i need from the 5E-FHE or 5E-FE engines to convert my car into 5E-FTE?

One other question, do you think leaving the 4E-FTE engine in and souping it up with forged internals bigger turbo etc will be better than first converting to 5E-FTE then do these things?

One last one, what turbo will i have to use with the 5E-FTE? CT9 still? or CT12, will it be a straight bolt on?

Please let me know if i have asked a stupid question as i am quite new to this.

regards,

Luc

Personally you are better off getting a complete 5E motor. From there you buy a set of Ross Pistons from Speedvision. You can get a set of spook rods but its not necessary if you use 5EFHE rods. (Aftermarket rods are better).

One you go through all that get a genuine toyota rebuild kit and put it all back together.

There is your new 5EFE/FHE motor waiting for a turbo to put on it. Also it means you have a complete 4EFTE motor that you can sell, or rebuild on the cheap as a spare.

5E will always be better than a 4E when turbocharged.

Turbo is your choice. If you want quick spool you could go a highflowed CT9 but i would go for a T25/T28 with a Nissan 180SX rear housing (baby rear housing) so it will spool up nice and wont be restrictive too much.

If i skipped some of your questions or still not sure let me know :)

so all you keep from the 5e is the block, crank and conrods? what about the oil pump? keep 4efte? Does the 5e have a knock sensor?

Ok. so all this discussion about clutches and flywheels with the conversion (on austarletclub.com).... does it apply to a auto tranny? (Bear with my extreme lack of knowledge on drivetrains)

no, auto tranny does not apply. Well if you have a 4E block, use a 4E flexplate (looks kinda like a flywheel). If you have a 5E block use a 5E flexplate.

oil pumps are the same so just buy a new replacement for the one that you already have.
