Hey guys:)
My 1997 ep91 Starlet 5 speed (Australian spec 4efe) has an erratic idle speed (sometimes it idles so slow it shakes, nearly stalls usually when cold but other times as well) and I'm guessing the idle sensor isn't working properly??
Where is the idle speed sensor and what can I do about this issue?
A pic would be brilliant........
Thanks

ivan is your man!
Underneath the throttle body will be a solanoid with 3 wires. That part being faulty can cause the problem. Have you run diagnostics on your car yet? Its when you bridge two wires in the diagnostics plug and the engine light flashes x times to indicate there is a problem.
Do that first and it should tell u exactly the problem.
Does your engine light flash at all?

Hi Ivan and thanks for the clue.
I should start by telling you that my knowledge of anything electronic is POOR so keep it simple if you would please:o
I took two pics of the solenoid i THINK? you are talking about, the gadget in the pics has three wires but there is another gadget also with three wires that is on the upper rear of the throttle body closeby , please confirm.
What is this solenoid called and what does it do??
No diagnostic stuff done, I figure only a service technician with the right equipment could do that??
No I am not showing any engine warning light on the dash.
I only suggested the idle sensor might be at fault cos the only other EFI car I have experience with needed them replaced regularly.

Try doing the diagnostic code thingy, that will tell you if that idle solanoid is the problem. (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9558/diagnostics6ow.jpg)
