How do you install an aftermarket tachometer to the starlet?
This is also know as a REV GAUGE!!!!

Gaz, this link: http://www.austarletclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10477&hl=tacho may help with fitment of an aftermarket tacho.
Another option is getting a Glanza dash such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-Starlet-GLANZA-EP91-Gauge-Cluster-4EFTE-Turbo-5EFHE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33675QQihZ018QQit emZ280246357608QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW and have it wired in. This would be the best option in my opinion as some law makers / policemen don't like to see aftermarket guages mounted above the dash.
There are a few threads around for the wiring diagrams to swap in the Glanza dash so it should not be too hard for anyone competent enough to wire in a stereo for instance.
Check out my thread in members rides to see what the Glanza dash looks like.

I just had a look in my thread and found there wasn't a pic of the Glanza dash so here it is...

They are a direct physical swap but the wiring differs a lot.

I installed a tacho into my ep91, the wire coming from the IG- port inside the engine bay diagnosis plug which i believe is black with a white or grey stripe is the wire for the actual RPM. you can wire the power for the tach in with the accessories power wire. attach the ground to anywhere that grounds to the body and for the backlight to come on when you turn your lights on there should be an electrical connection behind the trim to the outside of the steering wheel with multiple pins to plug the light wire into. eventually you will find the one that turns the lights on with the cars
