Removing rear brake drums. Is there any hints special tools needed?

I have a squeal and want to check it out. I can't find a workshop manual anywhere to check out how to or what tools maybe needed.

:confused:Is it a fairly basic job or will I need a special tool?

I've not even taken a hub cap off this car yet :rolleyes: but done other maintainance on older, more basic cars but these more modern higher tech ones, I have found are seemingly made more difficult to work on by the vehicles manufacturers.(Probably to try to keep us more dependant the auto manufactures alotted agencies.) :mad:

The next job I have coming up is a CV joint replacement. :( Again I tinks I will be asking for some assistance from you guys. That is, unless I find a workshop manual.

Rear drums are fairly simple to do. Do a search on the net for anything to do with Starlet/Paseo/Corolla/tercel rear drum change and it will give you the same steps. Basically pull it apart, replace shoes (pads) and reverse the order to put it back together.

As for CV's, its fairly easy. Are you replacing the whole shafts or replacing the joints themselves?

Thanks Ivan. I've done the job in the past on half dozen cars ranging from Hillman Californian, VW Golf, Morrie Oxford even a David Brown tractor but I thought that these new fan-dangled wee cars might have been a tad more difficult cause of new ideas. I'm pleased it sounds like it will be fine
A for the CV's, I haven't yet had a look to see what's worn. I'm just starting to hear the knocking now and again. Also, I will need to check out what parts are available from Repco where I get the bits & pieces from with fair prices.

ebay sell complete cv shafts at a cheap rate. They are not as good quality though and i have seen the splines bend from force.

Suitable for 4efe motors though.
