Hi guys.i would really apreciate if you could help me figure out why the ep81 is faster than ep91 and both with the same 4efe engine.raced my ep91 with a friend who has an ep81 and he was alot faster.i drove his car and it was definately more powerful and faster.had a look at his engine, looked the same except the intake system.both our engines are standard with no mods.was wonderin if the internals could be different (pistons, crankshaft, cams, etc)and why more powerful?? thanx

There are definately differences with the motor. Intake system for one. Computer programming is another. What is the redline on both cars?

I couldnt say exactly what all diferences are but there are definately differences in the motor.

well the s1 4efte some models came with 100ps, almost identical mechanicaly to the the 4efte(tb, inlet, rods, cams etc) except with a higher comperssion and slightly larger injectors.

these little 1.3s were used for n1 racing and redlined at 7200.

the later ep91s used a 4efe with smaller tb, thinner runners on the linet manifold, gay cams and week valve springs. they reved to 6200.

The EP8# is faster for two reasons:

1. It's more powerful
2. It's lighter

If it's a JDM EP8# chances are it'll have the 100ps 4EFE which is a good base for any NA power build

**COUGH enzo COUGH**

Hmmm interesting i dnt know why toyota did that to the ep91 they are silly, should have made it more powerful than the ep82 to show some progress.how do i get more power out of my 4efe?know the ep91 ecu was detuned to reduce emissions.what if got the ep82 ecu, inlet manifold, cams, injectors and valve springs would that result in a slight increase in power? would the wiring be easy to do?are the wiring looms similar?i want 2 get sme more power until i can get a decent gt turbo ?they r not easy 2 get here in good shape.thanks.

The JDM EP91's are less powerful too, they opted to make the engine more driveable and concentrated on torque more than anything. JDM 4EFE's had 85bhp from 1996.

In theory the 100bhp gear will bolt straight in and work but it's the ECU which is the stumbling block. It doesn't just plug and play from what I've seen. There is a difference in the idle control and the wiring is different. This makes things a little tricky.

Possibly Enzo can advise on how best to unlock some NA power as I never really took to it. Always got distracted by the turbo options lol.

Thanks for the info.i know what you mean on the turbo tuning compared to na tuning.want to try and keep my ep91 as an everyday car and get a decent gt turbo or a glanza v(damn hard to get) as a weekend car.i cant import the car because any car older than 8 years by kenyan customs law cant be imported.but the people who have them here dont want to sell and they are some pretty cool ones here.the people who want 2 sell theirs are in bad shape and fixing them is just soo costly that you would buy such a gt for spare parts you know what i mean.untill i get the turbo wanted slight ,cough cough, increase in power.thanks mate will want some advise when i get my turbo.
