Brake Swap

Hello
I have a 1996 EP-90 Starlet with a 2E engine. My car came with a small 238mm solid disc rotors. After some research i found that the ep-91 glanza have a 254 mm vented rotors, and AE-111 Corolla have the same size of rotors. My question is the following, are these 2 disc actually the same? in a positive case i coul swap the corolla brakes with no modifications?

The glanza brakes are a bolt on to your hubs.

The Corolla brakes i believe are also capable of bolting on, however there are better options available.

The easiest brakes to bolt on are AE111 Superstrut brakes, where the disks are 280mm and the callipers are twin piston.
The only modification to this conversion is to machine the disks down to 269mm, and bolt it on.

Do you mean the Levin GTZ brakes isn`t it?
The problem is that, neither levin nor glanza starlet were available in latin america. Only in my country (Venezuela) came just the starlet with the carbureted 2E engine. The rest of america received the EL Tercel with 5E-FE. So my problen is to find these parts. I will try with the european AE-111 brakes (if i could fit) which are the easiest parts to find. After all my car only weight 840kg, because it doesn`t have, ecu, fuel injection system, no power steering, no power windows, even it doesn`t have rear seat belts. So i think that with 257mm will be fine. But with 269 mm should be great.
If i could fit then i will post the pics here.

Although my trackcar isn't an EP90 it was an EP80 with a 2E-E engine. I used a set of EP91 Glanza V front calipers which bolted straight on with no difficulties and offered a huge upgrade over the original brakes:

Make sure you get the brake pad carriers as well as the brake calipers themselves. I do not believe the corolla's had the same parts - although I am used to seeing UK-spec models so don't quote me.


On a car of this weight (700kgs) I didn't feel the need for huge stopping power although the brake upgrade that Ivan is suggesting is VERY impressive. A local friend is running this setup in his EP82 GT and it's possible to lock the car up at high speed...nearly wet myself the first time he demonstrated this! :eek:

impossible to lock up is not a good thing, unless its got ABS

you should be able to lock it up more easily with better brakes. all you need to do is practice keeping it on the point right before it locks up, this is the quickest way to stop

in responce to your question the levin rotors are 22 mil as oposed to 18mil for the glanza

But don`t you think that if the levin caliper suit the starlet, then the standard corolla shoud fit?
