Hi all - I'm new here...
I am having intermittent starting problems with my stock EP91 - if I detail them here is that something we can pls discuss ?
Ta...
wud help f i can wat problems you havin
OK, then, here goes...
Sometimes when I go to start the car I de-arm the immobiliser, and then turn the key. AFAIK it sounds like the starter kicks over as normal, but the engine never "catches". Doesn't seem to matter how many times I try.
However, a quick push start of the car on my own never fails to get it going. Am reasonably confident the issue is not the battery - have put a different battery in the car and it still happens intermittently.
The problem seems to come and go at random - I have not noticed any pattern to it.
Nonetheless it is really starting to annoy me!
firstly, do a Diagnostics check. Its by connecting two teminals in the engine bay.
(i will link u next week when i have time)
secondly, can you disable the immobiliser completely?
does the engine lights/oil lights come on when you cant start the car? (if not, then its prob your imobiliser)
is the starter motor kicking over without strain? (if so then its not your battery)
so when you clutch start the car, it works every time? (try putting it in gear, rolling it forward (or backwards) about an inch, then try and crank it (with the clutch pressed) to make sure that the starter motor is catching on the flywheel)
Hope that helps.
Ivan
Thanks for these ideas. Will look into them...
I would please LOVE to know how to check diag's on my car!![]()
2 help with the starting problem try removing the starter puting it in a vice or similar and bring power 2 the conectors a a minus 2 the hosing if it fires the cog on the shaft inside forward its fine have seen it been faulty if it dosent need replacing jack the car up put in gear and spin wheel lookin in the hole at splines where starter was removed if they are fine then its possible of immobliser problem but 9 outa 10 cut fuel and wudnt start on a push hope it helps......

What v spec said sounds good.
v Spec, without sounding rude (im honestly not trying to be) can you use paragraphs and full stops more often. Your posts are hard to read sometimes.
thanks
Ivan
UPDATE: car has just spent a whole day at a reputable auto sparkie workshop, and the problem has them beat! Not sure where to go from here...
(FYI this workshop is the same place the local Toyota dealer used for their autospark work).
I found that online in the end. I ended up not doing it, as the autosparkie did it for me with his machine - sadly the ECU is not logging any errors for my no-starts.
Am gonna look into that. The autosparkie has talked about a temp bypass of the immobiliser to prove that is not the problem?
Yes - and starter motor seems to kick over OK also.
On one no-start the autosparkie managed to test there was no spark though.
Due to the intermittent nature of the no-starts its hard for the autosparkie to get to test all conditions (on a no-start).
Yes - fine every time.
Yes, but while watching me the autosparkie noted that my push start involved turning the key to "start", rather than just "on", which he says is not the normal way to push start - I didn't know any different. Doesn't require much of a push start either...
Tried that numerous times - has never worked.
Ta for all your efforts. I am really not sure where to go from here...
Autosparkie WAS gonna change the dizzy module as he thought that might be it, but now that he has seen me push start the car so easily he is no longer convinced that is the problem.
Semi-related, have now messaged you again (Ivan, I assume?) about manual(s) you are selling ?!
